Ted Hatzakortzian is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Big Childcare. He and his wife, Sian, started the business in 2009 with just three Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) contracts. Today, the business has grown exponentially, with over 45 OSHC contracts in Victorian and New South Wales, employing over 400 staff.
Ted has 17 years of experience working in the Education sector. Having worked in a range of leadership positions with Sydenham Hillside Primary School between 2003 and 2005, Ted’s strategic leadership style saw him promoted to become the Out of School Hours Care Director in 2005 and he remained in that role until 2009. It was from this foundation that World4Kids was birthed, now trading as Big Childcare.
With strong roots to the Western suburbs of Melbourne, Ted has always had a passion for providing excellent care to local families and has made a significant contribution to his community over many years. His unwavering support for children and families goes beyond his professional associations, having been a volunteer for Very Special Kids between 2002 and 2007, where he held key roles as a Family Services Volunteer, a Special Events / Camps Volunteer and a Corporate Events Volunteer. Ted was the Football Club President at Avondale Heights between 2017 and 2018, where he invested his efforts in ensuring young football players were given every opportunity to succeed.
Ted is also the founder and CEO of a non-for-profit company, Greenaid Relief, which assists charities throughout Australia and overseas. Established in 2012, this philanthropic venture has fully funded over 1000 food and water projects, built a school in Haiti and has donated 100% of all profits, with no paid staff.
As the CEO of Big Childcare, Ted’s business acumen has provided the company with strong leadership and vision to create a customised service delivery model which is innovative and unique within a crowded OSHC industry.
Ted’s dedication to schools who partner with Big Childcare is highly regarded. He has instilled a culture within the company to a provide service which goes above and beyond the needs and expectations of its customers. On countless occasions, Ted has generously provided practical and financial support to schools and organisations to help them succeed. His commitment to his staff is well known, regularly rewarding them for their efforts and providing incredible opportunities for growth and professional development.
As a father of four children, Ted understands the child care needs of busy families. He, along with his wife, Sian, regularly draw on their lived experience to drive and implement changes which strengthen and improve the business model of the company. Ted’s longevity in the OSHC industry is a testament to his unyielding desire for growth and success.
